Funded through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in collaboration with giz via the ACINAR-project, German university professors and CGIAR++ centers, ATSAF has established the ATSAF Academy.
The aim of the Academy is to involve PhD students from German universities in CGIAR++ research projects and in this way strengthen the links between German universities and international, development-oriented agricultural research.
In order to be eligible for support, the PhD student must be hosted by a CGIAR++ Center, attached to an ongoing CGIAR++ research activity, best in form of an international, multidisciplinary project, and jointly supervised by a CGIAR++ senior scientist and a Professor from a German university. The envisaged PhD project must be complementary and provide an added value to the ongoing CGIAR++research activity.
Students must enroll into a German PhD program but do not need to be German nationals. Applicants from CGIAR++ partner countries are welcome and we particularly encourage female students to apply.
The ATSAF Academy offers a scientific support program for its scholarship holders in the form of courses and seminars, which are recognized in the respective universities for the structured PhD programs.
